Martina Quesada (Buenos Aires, 1987)
lives and works in Paris.
In past projects, Quesada has been interested in the construction of meaning within society through historical perspectives. Often questioning our ways of seeing and remembering as to go beyond social dogma, and that which seems certain and unchanging. Many of her works consist in the use of simple geometrical systems to explore the intersection between visible and invisible, as well as the transition areas where transformation is triggered. Researching on how to disarticulate functional viewpoints in order to generate new ways of perceiving, she her work spans from sculpture, installation and video; usisng this variations of media as to evoke personal introspection through the use of external references of nature and ancient sacred symbolo gy. Part of her investigation consists in the analysis of the impact of religious and sacred imagery on contemporary social dynamics and how representation and information are conveyed and interiorized over time, examining traditional rituals and worship practices as reference points to consider the various pathways to spirituality.
Her works are included in institutional and private collections such as MACBA (Museum of Contemporary Art Buenos Aires) and MALI (National Museum of Lima)
She has an upcoming solo exhibition at MACBA, Buenos Aires, which will be her first institutional solo show.
